RIGHTLY or wrongly, there’s a perception that Laois is the forgotten county of Ireland, a county that you just pass through on your way to somewhere else.
But that could all change with the announcement of a new TG4 series that’s aimed at showcasing Ireland’s undiscovered tourist attractions.
The search is for Ireland’s next tourist attraction and that could be in Laois.
Tourist hotspots in Ireland come in all shapes and sizes. The recent rise in popularity of the Wild Atlantic Way has shown that sometimes the most attractive things to tourists are right under our noses. All we need to do is uncover them and get the word out.
TG4’s tourist trail around Ireland will be led by two experts. It’s all about giving communities a chance to focus on opportunities that are right in front of their eyes and discover the next tourist attractions in Ireland.
Over the six programmes, two experts will visit new areas that have yet to be highlighted on a national platform. They will be asking individuals and communities behind these attractions to put their best foot forward and show what makes their project unique.
These can range from a new food trail, adventure activity or a natural geographical attraction. Are you doing something special that should be bringing busloads of tourists to your town or village? Does your community commemorate an historical event that could be a new must-see attraction? Is your locality connected to a global celebrity or a political figure?
The programme producers are open to hearing about anything, from the ridiculous to the magnificent. They are looking to showcase the best of what Ireland has to offer its tourists. If you think your local tourist attraction can be the next Cliffs of Moher, Book of Kells or an ancestral home worthy of a visit, they want to hear from you.
