THEY were rolling in the aisles in Raheen and Portlaoise last week as local panto groups put on their annual extravaganzas.

Raheen Panto Group presented celebrated their 25th anniversary production in the James Fintan Lalor Memorial Hall Raheen, with Babes in the wood.

The panto was, once again, rapturously received and gathered plaudits right up to its final performance last Sunday.

The panto’s director, John Hosey, said: “We had a fantastic reaction. The show was brilliant. People said it was one of our best. It was very fast-paced and very funny. Things, I know, are a bit iffy at the moment, but we had a packed out hall most nights. It was a funny show to start with, but you don’t really know until you go out there and perform it.”

Mr Hosey lauded the cast, crew and chorus of the panto society who all rowed in together to ensure one of the most successful panto productions yet.

Meanwhile, Portlaoise Panto Group is still packing out the Dunamaise Arts Centre this week with Snow White and Seven Dwarfs.

The show is the group’s 28th production and will run every day until Saturday.
