THERE was a good turnout at the first fly-tying course of the year hosted by Mountmellick Angling and Conservation Association in the Town Hall last Thursday evening.
Club members David Tuohy and Paul Lalor instructed in the art of tying artificial flies, which club members use along the rivers Owenass, Triogue and Barrow.
The club has gone from strength to strength in the past few years.
It caters for junior and senior anglers, male and female.
The club fishes the local rivers for wild brown trout using worms, fly and spinner.
It also has two water keepers, Paul Lalor and Tony Quigley.
The club also holds regular clean-ups along the river banks and sets aside a number of days to maintain the bridges along the rivers.
The club will hold its AGM next month.
