A SPECIAL public meeting on crime in the Durrow area will take place tonight (Tuesday).
Due to a spate of crimes in the area, Durrow Community Council is holding a public meeting in the Castle Arms Hotel at 8pm.
Mary Walsh of Durrow Community Council said: “There have been few house robberies, where a lot of jewellery and money has been taken.
Alarms have been ripped off and, in one case, they even got up into an attic. There have been a few serious robberies, but not with owners actually in the house.”
Ms Walsh said ease of access onto the motorway also had an impact. The meeting will also involve the Durrow/ Cullahill Community Alert, an Garda Síochána and Muintir na Tíre.
Ms Walsh added: “We can only see what will come out of it (the public meeting). Besides increased vigilance and looking after the elderly, we’ll be looking for suggestions.”
