A STAR of the Harry Potter films will launch the first solo exhibition of a talented young Portarlington artist next week.

Actress Evanna Lynch, better known as Luna Lovegood, will officially open19-year-old Shauna Blanchfield’s exhibition at Abbeyleix Library next Tuesday 31 August.

The exhibition, entitled Urban Ruin, will feature 20 paintings and photographs compiled by Shauna, an architecture student in UCD, over the last several months.

Shauna describes the work as “grungy” and added that the work was about how identity was lost when people are put into pigeon holes because of the clothes they wear or general appearance.

As part of it, Shauna took her models, daubed in paint and clad in black clothes, to be photographed at various locations in the county.

On the evening of the launch, there will also be some live installation pieces.

This is Shauna’s first solo exhibition, but the ambitious artist has previously organised group exhibitions with the Alternative People’s Association and her work has previously featured in the Art Across Cultures’ exhibition.

The opening of Urban Ruin will take place at Abbeyleix Library on Tuesday 31 August at 6pm. All are welcome.
