KYLE 0-15 MOUNTMELLICK 1-08
KYLE were ahead from the off in this fourth round championship game and not even a late goal could sway things in Mountmellick’s favour.
The early lead that Kyle had built up in the first half was in their favour. Kyle now have three wins out of four and face Camross in the next round. It was Kyle who led from the off and their first score came from centre back, Adrian Kelly, who was on target from his own 65.
Cillian Murphy responded with a converted 65 minutes later, while 2 scored frees from Gearóid Walsh kept Kyle tipping ahead.
Cillian Murphy was the accurate man for Mountmellick and he saw another 65 go over the bar. Oisín O’Sullivan left the Mountmellick players trailing behind him when he burst out of defence.
The half back line were clever letting the ball out, being sure not to waste possession. Cillian Murphy sent over two more placed balls before the break, while Kyle matched this scoring to leave the score at half-time Kyle 0-7 Mountmellick 0-4.
Mountmellick settled down going into the second half and it showed where it matters, on the scoreboard as they opened the second 30 minutes with 2 points, coming from the hurls of Cillian Murphy and midfielder Michael Bermingham. It seemed that Kyle could match Mountmellick’s efforts no matter how far they went ahead though.
As Mountmellick hit two, Kyle answered and their first half lead was standing to them. A well taken shot by Niall O’Lohan from a tight angle split the posts for Kyle and many would have thought it was the winner but Mountmellick weren’t finished just yet.
Michael Bermingham stepped up to take a free on the 21 metre line and he confidently blasted it to the back of the net. The only time left in the match was for Kyle to get a responding point, put over by Gearóid Walsh.
Kyle should now be fairly confident of making it to the deciding stages of the championship with just one game to play and 3 wins secured. No doubt they will try to spread the scoring more evenly amongst the forwards for their coming games as they relied on Gearóid Walsh for the majority of their scores against Mountmellick. It could be said though as long as the scores come it doesn’t matter where they come from.
