Quality livestock on view at recent show in Tullamore

AT A recent show and sale in Tullamore, Adamstown Evelyn claimed top prize in the in-calf section.

John and Bridget Barron, The Leap, Adamstown, Co Wexford claimed the top prize of €3,550 for their first-prize-winning in-calf heifer.

Leo Dooley from Craan, Clonegal exhibited the champion heifer, who drew lots of admiring glances from a packed ringside.

Adamstown Evelyn is by Dreylands Cheetah (stock bull).

She is in calf to Altamont Everest. She has a five-star rating for milk, a four-star rating for SBV, weanling export beef carcass. Having opened at €2,000 and, after some brisk bidding, she sold for €3,550.

Leo also exhibited a second prize-winner in the young bull section. Altamont Gent, a nine-month-old bull (470kgs) and a five-star rating for weanling export. He is by Dreyland Cheetah and Ballinclay Bibi (clan).

He was unsold in the ring at €1,500 and will remain part of the Altamont herd.

Leo also exhibited and sold a selection of quality weanling heifers, including Altamont Gosh, eight-month-old, SBV 118, with five-star ratings for export, beef carcass, daughter milk and docility. She is by Dreyland Cheetah and Ugochi (dam) and was sold in the ring for €1,600.

Altamont Gemini, another eight-month-old quality weanling heifer, with an SBV of 114 and five star ratings all round, sold for €1,560. She is by Cheetah (sire) and Adamstown Dreamer (dam).
