ST Fiacc’s National School claimed the Buachaillí Roinn 2 Shield following a nine-point win over The Heath. The Graiguecullen side produced a stunning second-half performance to claim glory.
St Fiacc’s dominated possession early on with Tommy Murnane showing his silky skills to point twice. The Heath hit back through Cormac Walsh and Charlie Mulhare, but St Fiacc’s remained ahead.
Caylan Casey, Darren McCarthy and Samuel de Felice all scored for the Graiguecullen outfit. Henry Kavanagh pointed in reply for The Heath and Cormac Walsh then had the chance for the game’s first goal, but Daniel Scully denied him with a stunning save.
But not to be outdone down the other end, Tommy McGrath showed great reactions to thwart James Tuohy. In the end, Cormac Walsh kicked the final point to leave just one between them – St Fiacc’s leading 0-5 to 0-4.
Walsh levelled matters five minutes into the second half with his third free. But St Fiacc’s stepped on the gas with three quickfire points from Tommy Murnane, James Tuohy and Aaron Fownes.
And then, with five minutes to go, Caylan Casey, who worked extremely hard all day, showed incredible tenacity to score a goal for St Fiacc’s.
The Heath didn’t give up, though, as Cormac Walsh scored twice, but Samuel de Felice and Callum Hurley kept St Fiacc’s ahead. And then James Tuohy smashed in a goal to settle the match with the final kick.
