COREY Doheny was the difference as Scoil Bhríde Portlaoise claimed Division 4 hurling glory on Wednesday afternoon. The talented midfielder ended with 5-6 as his side won by 14 points in O’Moore Park. Timahoe were bidding for their fourth title in a row since 2022, but Scoil Bhríde had other ideas.
It was Doheny who almost opened the scoring, but Timahoe goalkeeper Jack Ramsbottom denied him. However, Richard Galvin O’Shea was on hand to flick the rebound into the net.
Shane Miller got Timahoe off the mark with a score from a free before Doheny rattled in Scoil Bhríde’s first goal, adding a 45’ to his tally soon after.
Shane Miller was immaculate on free-taking duties, pointing his second of the contest. Doheny then went on a great run before scoring Scoil Bhríde’s second goal to put six points between the sides.

Shane Miller and Aidan Miller responded with a point apiece to reduce the gap before Doheny split the posts again. Shane Miller reduced the gap significantly when he raised a green flag for Timahoe, but Scoil Bhríde took control from there, firing 2-2 without reply. Doheny scored a fine point from play before another excellent run saw him claim his second goal of the game and completed his hat-trick moments later.
Galvin O’Shea and Shane Miller traded scores but a late flurry saw Doheny and Aivo Kalnins add a goal each for Scoil Bhríde to give the Portlaoise school a healthy lead at half time, up 6-5 to 1-5.
The second half began with both sides trading scores as Doheny pointed twice, while Shane and Ben Miller replied for Timahoe. Three more Timahoe frees followed — two from Shane Miller and one from Aidan Miller.
However, Scoil Bhríde rattled the net for a seventh time, with Doheny raising his sixth green flag of the day. Ben Miller got the final score for Timahoe, but it was Scoil Bhríde who finished as worthy champions.
