PORTLAOISE AFC, in partnership with Powerpoint Engineering, hosted a special fundraising event in honour of beloved clubman Emlyn O’Reilly at Rossleighan Park on Sunday 21 September.
Emlyn sadly passed away in July following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He received care at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore, which was chosen as the beneficiary of this year’s fundraising efforts.

Each year the team at Powerpoint Engineering takes part in a charity cycle and this year all proceeds were dedicated to the Midlands Regional Hospital. In support of this initiative and to honour Emlyn’s memory, Portlaoise AFC introduced a new tradition — The Emlyn Cup.
The inaugural match for the Emlyn Cup saw the Portlaoise Legends, captained by Martin Hilliard, take on the current Portlaoise senior team, led by Mark Dunne.

A large crowd gathered at Rossleighan Park, including Emlyn’s family, friends, and club members, to celebrate his legacy.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with the Legends clinching victory in a dramatic penalty shootout.
All proceeds from the club shop and a raffle held on the day were donated to the chosen charity.
The Emlyn Cup will now become an annual fixture, a lasting tribute to Emlyn O’Reilly and his enduring impact on the club and community.
