CLONASLEE made a flying start to the Division 3 Boys Championship final against Timahoe, striking three early goals to lay the foundations for a convincing victory.
Rory Wynne, Charlie Horan and Killian Dunne all found the net in the opening stages as Clonaslee took full advantage of the wind at their backs and seized control of the contest from the outset.
Timahoe responded with a fine left-footed point from Sean Delaney before Ben Miller added a well-taken free. However, Clonaslee continued to dictate proceedings, with points from Alex Kelly, Dunne, Tom Rowney (free) and Wynne helping them maintain their grip on the game.
Miller converted another free for Timahoe before the interval, but Clonaslee remained firmly in command and carried a 3-4 to 0-3 lead into the break.
The impressive Rowney opened the second-half scoring with a converted free, while top scorer Wynne also added a point as Clonaslee stretched their advantage. Although Timahoe enjoyed plenty of possession during this period, they struggled to make significant inroads on the scoreboard and found the Clonaslee defence difficult to break down.
Any hopes of a Timahoe comeback were effectively ended when Rowney raised a fourth green flag for Clonaslee. To their credit, Timahoe continued to battle and were rewarded when Tom Fraser produced an excellent individual goal. Clonaslee responded immediately though, with Wynne forcing a fine save from goalkeeper Conor Stokes, who did brilliantly to tip the effort over the bar.
Clonaslee finished strongly, with further points from Wynne and Michael McEvoy putting the seal on an excellent team performance. The final score of the game went to Timahoe, with Miller landing a superb point from distance, but it was little more than a consolation as Clonaslee celebrated Division 3 Boys Championship glory.
