Funeral of Noreen Daly (81) to take place on Sunday

Funeral details have been announced for a “dearly loved” 81-year-old woman whose body was found at her home in Ardsallagh near Youghal Bridge in Waterford last Monday.

An investigation was launched following the discovery of the body of Noreen Daly. A postmortem examination was undertaken and the scene was forensically examined.

A man in his 30s has appeared before a court in Carrick-on-Suir charged with her murder.

Daly lived alone following the death of her husband Michael in 2023. Her death notice reads that Noreen was the “constant companion” of her late husband who was the “love of her life.”

She had lived with her husband in Monkstown in Co Dublin for many years, but she and her husband bought a home in Arsdallagh overlooking the River Blackwater 25 years ago.

Earlier this year, Daly sold her home in Dublin to move to Waterford permanently.

Noreen Daly, née Murphy was a native of Grenagh in Co Cork. She will lie in repose at the Jerh O’Connor Funeral Home in Coburg Street in Cork city from 4pm to 5pm on Saturday.

Her funeral will take place at 11am on Sunday at St Lachteen’s Church in Grenagh with burial following in the cemetery of the same name.

Mourners are asked to donate, if desired, to Women’s Aid in lieu of flowers.

Daly is survived by her siblings Teddy Murphy, Tessie Walsh, Lelia Bolster, Ann Humphreys and Kitty O’Doherty whom she “adored beyond measure.”

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her parents Timothy and Nora, her brother Michael (Haulie) Murphy, her brothers-in-law Johnny, Kieran and John and her nephew Vincent.

She will be “deeply missed” and lovingly remembered by her heartbroken family, her brothers-in-law Batt and Kevin, sisters-in-law Bernie, Sheila and Sheilagh, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and friends.

Her death notice also states that she touched many lives arising out of her “warmth, kindness, and gentle nature.”

Meanwhile, tributes were paid to Daly in the wake of her death.

Clashmore and Kinsalebeg Community Council said that they were “stunned” to hear of her passing.

“She was very much involved in the local community and got involved in Traditional music, Blackwater Opera Festival, Ardmore Choir, Tai Chi, Clashmore exercise classes to name just a few.

"Noreen was 81 but she would not like to be described as elderly.

"She saw this move as the next stage of her life where she was going to carry on exploring and learning. Every day involved meeting her friends and doing new things.

"She was a kind, caring and generous person who loved her and Mike's extended family. All who knew her will feel this loss for a very long time.”
