Gardaí seek €5m deal for new speed guns

An Garda Síochána is seeking a supplier for a contract worth up to €5 million to provide new speed-measuring devices, along with calibration, repairs and maintenance for existing equipment.
The tender covers the supply of Lidar speed guns, which use laser technology to measure a vehicle’s speed, as well as technical support and certification.
The Garda expect to order 100 compact handheld devices with a range of at least 600 metres, and 10 long-range image-recording devices capable of operating at a distance of at least 1km.
The projected numbers are indicative and do not guarantee a minimum order.
The long-range devices must be suitable for tripod or mounted use. They must be capable of automatically recording detections and exporting the images and associated data.
Each evidential image must show the date and time, the location, the speed limit and the vehicle’s recorded speed. The equipment must also record GPS location data. The devices must be capable of measuring speeds of up to 320km/h, with specified accuracy requirements. They must operate in low light and poor weather, including rain, fog and snow, and be water-resistant.
The successful supplier will also be required to maintain, repair and calibrate existing Garda equipment.
Tender documents state that the supplier must provide an end-to-end service, including delivery, commissioning, certification, periodic calibration, repairs and technical support.
The Garda require a response to hardware problems within six hours and to priority software issues within two hours. The tender notice estimates the contract value at €5 million, excluding VAT, and gives a duration of 60 months. Tenders must be submitted by 3pm on September 11th.
