Heavyweights collide as Camross and Clough/Ballacolla renew rivalry

THERE may only be two rounds played in the Laois Senior Hurling Championship, but tonight's meeting of Camross and Clough/Ballacolla already has the feel of a championship knockout game. The sides meet in Round 3 at Laois Hire O'Moore Park at 7.30pm, with both aiming to underline their credentials as leading contenders for the Bob O'Keeffe Cup Few rivalries in Laois hurling carry the weight of Camross versus Clough/Ballacolla. The clubs have dominated the county scene over the last decade and met in the 2025 county final, where Clough/Ballacolla emerged victorious by 2-21 to 2-15.

That result will not have been forgotten in Camross, who will see tonight’s encounter as an opportunity to lay down an early marker and gain a measure of revenge.

Camross have made an impressive start to the championship opening with a high-scoring victory over The Harps, winning 2-31 to 5-16, before following up with another strong attacking display in a 2-24 to 1-23 victory over Rathdowney/Errill.

Those results have highlighted the scoring threat throughout their team and demonstrated their ability to keep producing scores even when under pressure.

The likes of Tomás Keyes and the experienced Camross attack will fancy their chances if the game becomes an open contest.

Clough/Ballacolla arrive as the reigning county champions and showed their resilience in Round 2 when they defeated Ballinakill by 1-23 to 0-21. Champions rarely panic, and the Clough/Ballacolla side have built a reputation for delivering on the big occasion.

Their blend of physicality, championship know-how and scoring power makes them one of the few teams capable of matching Camross stride for stride.
