Irish State agencies have been using password software with links to a Russian tech agency, according to an Irish Times investigation.

The technology is linked to Moscow's intelligence service, according to The Irish Times report.

The software is sold by the Spanish company Passwork Europe, which claims to be an entirely EU-funded company.

However, it shares "striking similarities" with software of the same name which first appeared in Russia 12 years ago.

At least three Irish Government agencies use Passwork Europe, with each handling sensitive information.

The agencies are the Office of Public Works (OPW), the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and the he Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.
