LAOIS referee Kevin Phelan has been appointed to referee the 2026 TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Ladies Football final, a significant milestone in an officiating career that has spanned many years at the highest level.
The St Brigid’s and Barrowhouse clubman will take charge of the final between Fermanagh and Roscommon at Croke Park on Sunday, with throw-in set for 1.45pm. The game forms part of a triple-header at GAA headquarters, alongside the Junior and Senior All-Ireland ladies football finals.
Phelan is no stranger to major occasions. His previous All-Ireland final appointment came in 2019, when he refereed the Junior Championship decider between Louth and Fermanagh. Since then, he has continued to establish himself as one of the leading officials in the ladies game through a series of strong performances in league and championship competition.
The 2026 season has seen Phelan entrusted with several high-profile fixtures, including Division 1 National League clashes involving some of the country’s top teams. Among the games he has overseen were meetings between Dublin and Kerry, Armagh and Dublin, and Cork and Galway.
More recently, he was selected to referee the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship group-stage encounter between Roscommon and Down, while he also took charge of the All-Ireland Minor A semi-final between Cork and Dublin, further underlining the confidence placed in him by the LGFA.
The appointment is recognition of years of dedication, hard work and consistency, and represents a proud achievement for both Phelan and Laois officiating.
With thousands expected to attend Croke Park and a large television audience set to tune in, the Laois official will be at the centre of one of the biggest days in the ladies football calendar.
As Fermanagh and Roscommon battle for Intermediate championship honours, Phelan will have the responsibility of overseeing one of the most important fixtures of the season, adding another notable chapter to an impressive refereeing career.
