A Kilkenny man has broken the Irish record at the London Marathon on Sunday.

Peter Lynch from Kilkenny City Harriers clocked an incredible two hours six minutes, and eight seconds to finish ninth.

The 28-year-old also became the first European home.

His time takes nearly two minutes off the previous national record and over three minutes off his personal best time.

After the race, Lynch told Athletics Weekly: “It’s class. I knew based off training and the New York Half Marathon that the potential was there to run fast.”
