Portlaoise 0
PORTLAOISE eventually got the opportunity to play Killeigh this season having had three previous fixtures called off for different reasons.
Portlaoise were missing Aoife Gleeson, Serina Mullin and goalkeeper Sophie Leonard but were still very strong regardless.
The game started off at a frantic pace with both teams putting some lovely moves together. Portlaoise looked the most likely to open the scoring but a combination of good goalkeeping and bad luck saw them draw a blank in the first half with Emma O Sullivan and Aoibhinn Forde coming particularly close.
The game was extremely competitive from start to finish and both sets of coaches will be delighted with the endeavour and attitude shown by their teams.
Freya Ryan was excellent in goals in the first half having volunteered to step in and always looked a threat as a striker in the second half. Emma Griffin was unbeatable in defence in the first half and solid in goals in the second.
Holly Byrne mopped up everything that came her way making countless clearances and tackles. Olivia Brophy also defended brilliantly with her distribution and combinations with Aoibhinn Forde on the left very eye catching.
Charlotte O’Regan covered every blade of grass on the pitch as usual, winning back possession on numerous occasions before setting Portlaoise off on attacks.
Lauren Farrell worked her socks off on the right with some really clever passes to link up with her strikers. Aoibhinn Forde terrorised the home defence, making great runs down the wing while also being very unlucky not to score or assist.
Emma O’Sullivan got into some brilliant positions to score but luck wasn't on her side on the day. Her movement and touches were excellent and there's no doubt she'll score plenty of goals in games to come.
Sophie Delmer was classy up front in the first half showing some lovely touches. She defending really well in the second half before spending the last five minutes in goals. A really good all round display.
