Laois 6-26

Wicklow 2-10

FOR the second week in succession Laois travelled away in the Celtic Challenge hurling competition. The week they were in the Faithful Fields taking on Offaly and snatched victory with a last minute goal.

On Friday last it was a completely different matter. Hollywood in the Garden County was the venue where again the weather was perfect and Laois fielded almost the same line out.

Right from the throw in the visitors picked up where they left off in Offaly. Points by Bobby O’Connor, Dan Bowe and Scott Kelly set Laois on the road to victory. Then last week’s hero, Dan Bowe struck for a well taken goal and after that Wicklow were out played.

The home team were to field their minor team in this competition instead changed their mind and fielded a team in Leinster minor championship.

Laois were dominating all over the field, adding goals by Scott Kelly, Jamie Fitzpatrick and a second by Dan Bowe before the interval saw Laois leading 3-6 to 0-4.

The second half followed a similar pattern, despite Laois introducing several replacements and they too played their part on the win. One of them, Cian Fitzpatrick posted a goal and two points.

This steam has improved with every game and look like challenging for honours in their remaining games.
