Lea Road was a hive of activity for the Leinster Rugby U/12 Boys Provincial Blitz
.
LEA Road was the venue on Sunday as 15 clubs from eight counties took part the 2025 Leinster Rugby U/12 Boys Provincial Blitz.
Portarlington RFC welcomed clubs from across Laois, Kildare, Carlow, Offaly, Westmeath, Longford, Meath and Wexford for an amazing and inspiring festival of rugby.
The clubs who joined Port for the blitz were Portlaoise, Naas, North Kildare, Clane, Tullow, Carlow, Tullamore, Birr, Midland Warriors, Mullingar, Longford, Enniscorthy, Gorey and Ashbourne.
Nine of the 15 the clubs entered two teams into the blitz, making for six groups of four, which saw around 300 children take part in a series of 20-minute matches, each starting every half an hour from 11am to 2pm.
The blitz is part of a wider initiative across the province to help grow the game at grassroots level.
One day earlier on Saturday, Portarlington and Portlaoise also took part in the 2025 Leinster Rugby U/10 Boys Provincial Blitz hosted by Longford RFC in Abbeycartron.
Held throughout the season, these events emphasise equal playing time, inclusion, participation and fun.
The boys and girls minis teams (age groups up to U/12) at Portarlington and Portlaoise play a series of home and away blitzes alongside their Kildare counterparts as part of each club’s annual schedule of fixtures.
As such, these provincial events provide an opportunity for the minis to visit new rugby clubs and face an array of different opposition.
