The Lord Mayor of Dublin Councillor Ray McAdam will open a book of condolence at the Mansion House following the death of Sister Stanislaus Kennedy.

It will be open on November 4th and 5th from 10am to 4pm.

Social justice campaigner and homelessness advocate Sister Stanislaus Kennedy, known to many as Sr Stan, died aged 86 on Monday at the St Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown.

A staunch social justice campaigner and homelessness advocate, she founded Focus Ireland and the Immigrant Council.

The Lord Mayor said: “There are not many people in Irish society who are instantly recognisable by one name, but then again there are not many people as popular as Sister Stan was.

"It is very sad news to hear of her passing, and on behalf of the citzens of Dublin I send my sincere condolences to her family and many friends.

"Sister Stan pioneered housing led solutions to homelessness in Ireland, breaking away from traditional institutional responses. She promoted secure housing as the foundation stone with supports added around the person, as needed.

"As a person she was a highly intelligent, warm, funny woman and a champion of social justice in everything she did.”

Sister Stan was presented with a Lord Mayor’s Award in 1996 by then Lord Mayor Sean Dublin Bay-Rockhall Loftus.

An online book of condolence will also be available to sign at this link: engage.dublincity.ie/en-IE/projects/book-of-condolence-sr-stanislaus-kennedy.
