M9 Crash victim airlifted to hospital as large section of motorway still closed

A person has been airlifted to Beaumont Hospital following a crash on the M9 in Carlow.

The casualty was taken into the care of the M116 helicopter at the scene, and transferred by air to Dublin Fire Brigade’s training site in Marino.

They were subsequently handed over to paramedics for transfer to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

Their condition is not yet known.

Gardaí say the incident happened southbound at Junction 6.

The section of road is currently closed between Junction 5 (Tinryland) and Junction 6 (Carlow).

The road remains closed in both directions, and diversions are in place.

Gardaí say the road will remain closed for a time, and motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journey.
