Mac an tSionnaigh leads Gaelscoil to victory

PADRAIG Mac an tSionnaigh delivered a standout performance as Gaelscoil Phortlaoise lifted the Division 2 Hurling Shield following an 11-point victory over a determined Camross side.

The influential forward hit an impressive nine points as Gaelscoil produced a commanding display to secure the win.

They made a blistering start, with captain Mac an tSionnaigh quickly settling into rhythm by pointing three times early on.

Camross registered their only score of the first half through Dylan Guilfoyle but struggled to break through a well-organised Gaelscoil defence for the remainder of the opening period.

From there, Gaelscoil took full control of proceedings and built a substantial interval advantage.

Kyle O’Faolain raised the first green flag of the game before Caleb de Plasa and Aodhan O Ceallaigh both added goals from distance, further extending their dominance.

Mac an tSionnaigh chipped in with two more points as Gaelscoil went into the break in a commanding position, leading 3-5 to 0-1.

After the restart, Mac an tSionnaigh continued to dictate proceedings, adding another couple of points to his tally.

Camross, however, showed plenty of spirit and were rewarded when Kyle Bergin found the net.

They might have closed the gap further but for an outstanding display from Gaelscoil goalkeeper Stiofan O hUaine, who produced a series of excellent saves.

Late scores from Neal Guilfoyle, Dylan Guilfoyle and Rhys Dowling gave Camross something to cheer, particularly from distance.

But Gaelscoil remained in control throughout, with Mac an tSionnaigh continuing to punish them on the scoreboard as they closed out a deserved and comfortable victory.
