Almost 40 per cent of electricity was generated by renewables last month with May sunshine producing a record amount of solar energy

Contributing 40 per cent of the overall fuel mix in March, wind energy made up a significant proportion of renewable energy.

The majority of renewable electricity generated last month came from windfarms, which accounted for just under 29 per cent of all electricity used in Ireland.

There was a new maximum peak of demand in Ireland of 5,544MW, followed by a new capacity energised onto the system: 300MW solar; 150MW wind; and 75MW batteries.
