The average household in Ireland is paying around €480 a year more for its electricity compared to the EU average, according to a report from Eurostat.

The latest figures show Ireland was ranked 9th among the 27 EU member states last year in terms of numbers granted protection status – up from 11th in 2024.

However, Ireland also has one of the lowest homicide rates in Europe.

Food prices fell by just under 1 per cent and rose 4 per cent in the year.

Energy prices are estimated to have decreased by 5.8% over the 12 months to July.
