The warning comes amid a 28 per cent rise in purchase scams being reported to the bank in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year.

The court was told that Vincent McDonagh, of Lord Edward St, Kilkenny, had 25 previous convictions for a range of offences including burglary, theft, and criminal damage.
