The former sports coach was 10 years into a near 19 year sentence for the sexual assault of 15 teenagers in Waterford in the 1970s and 1980s and had been suffering ill health in recent weeks.

The man (42) was convicted of two counts of rape and three of sexual assault following a trial at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Limerick earlier this year.

The Central Criminal Court heard that the man was in a relationship with the mother of the children and was the biological father of the younger two children.

Imposing sentence, Judge Orla Crowe noted that the victim was “not a patient per se” of Yunos's, rather her parents had asked him for help.
