The HSE chief was commenting following a series of recent controversies involving Children’s Health Ireland.

The children should undergo a standardised independent clinical review and radiological assessment, a report said.

An audit of hip dysplasia surgeries at CHI hospitals found hundreds of children operated on between 2021 and 2023 did not meet the threshold.

The surgeries were carried out by a surgeon at Children’s Health Ireland at Temple Street hospital.

Hundreds of children which received hip surgeries between 2021 and 2023 did not meet the threshold for the procedure.

Pearse Doherty said it was alleged that the surgeries were conducted ‘purely for financial gain’.
