The Government’s Bill prohibits the import of goods from “certain Israeli settlements”, in line with its international obligations as set out in the advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice from July 2024.

It calls for an EU-wide end of trade with goods and services originating from illegal settlements.

However, lawyer Blinne Ni Ghralaigh urged the inclusion of services in the Israeli Settlements (Prohibition of Importation of Goods) Bill 2025.

It follows a decision by Government to opt for fresh legislation instead of progressing the Occupied Territories Bill, first tabled in 2018.
