A man died in a fatal road traffic collision in Co Wexford early on Sunday morning.

The collision involved a passenger van and a jeep and occurred on the N25 at Ballykelly, near Drinagh in Co Wexford at around 1.10am.

The driver of the van, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been removed to the morgue at Wexford General Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

A passenger of one of the vehicles was brought to Wexford General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of offences under the Road Traffic Act and has been detained at a garda station in Wexford under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The road is closed and the scene preserved pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash cam, and were travelling on the N25 between 12.30am and 1.30am on Sunday, October 5th, have been asked to make their footage available to investigating gardaí.
