Mossy’s scoring spree leaves Camross in the driving seat and Borris/Kilcotton struggling

CAMROSS solidified their position at the top of Group A in the Laois Shopping Centre SHC with a three-point victory over Borris/Kilcotton in an incredible game in O'Moore Park on Saturday evening.

Borris/Kilcotton will be incredibly disappointed to come away with a loss after a scintillating performance that saw them put up 2-27 on the scoreboard, but ultimately leaking four goals in the first half came back to haunt them as Camross held out for a huge win.

The loss leaves Borris/Kilcotton still in danger of dropping out of the qualifying places ahead of Round 5 with Rathdowney-Errill still capable of nabbing a spot ahead of them.

They gave it their all on Saturday evening before losing out in dramatic fashion with Camross nabbing three points in the dying embers of the game after Borris/Kilcotton finally drew level in the 60th minute, having trailed since the first minute.

Camross were ruthless in attack themselves with Tomas Keyes putting on a dazzling display before he was forced off with an injury during the second half, while Eoin Gaughan and Odhran Phelan were both brilliant in attack and Zane Keenan came on to bring a huge level of experience in the second half and it was he who got two of the late winners.

Camross held a five point lead within the opening three minutes of the game but it was Aaron Dunphy that opened the scoring with a point for Borris/Kilcotton before they were hit with a flurry.

Eoin Gaughan struck a point from range before James Cuddy did great work up the field to find Mossy Keyes who finished well for Camross's first goal and their lead increased with points from Cathal Cuddy and Eoin Gaughan from way out.

Borris/Kilcotton reacted well with points from Eoin Fitzpatrick and PJ Scully but they were pushed back once again when Mossy Keyes' shot was saved by Eoin Fleming but James Cuddy was on hand to bury the rebound.

Camross raised their third green flag after just eight minutes when Keyes beat Colm Stapleton to a ball deep in opposition territory and turned on his heels to race inside and smash it home.

Points from Jer Quinlan, Aaron Dunphy and Scully kept Borris/Kilcotton in touch as Camross continued to score with Keyes and Odhran Phelan landing points.

The drama continued early in the game when Jer Quinlan was bundled up by two Camross backs and awarded a penalty that Eoin Fleming trekked up the field to smash into the bottom corner of the net, reducing the gap back to six.

The teams traded a trio of scores each in the aftermath with Gaughan, Keyes and Phelan on target for Camross while Scully, Neil Foyle and Aaron Dunphy replied for Borris/Kilcotton.

Camross continued to find joy against the Borris/Kilcotton backs however when Mossy Keyes was free out on the right wing and he pinged a perfect pass inside to Dan Delaney to rifle home their fourth goal.

A late flurry before half time kept Borris/Kilcotton in contention as Scully fired over three frees and Eoin Fitzpatrick slotted his second point of the game to make it 4-10 to 1-14 in favour of Camross at half time.

Borris/Kilcotton dominated the early stages of the second half with a quick double from Joe Campion along with another from Scully and a double from Jer Quinlan in the opening ten minutes.

Despite the slow start Camross came firing back through Keyes, Gaughan and Ciaran Collier and Camross held a four point lead at the midway stage.

Both sides lost their main scorers with Keyes and Scully both coming off during the second half, but despite that the drama in the forwards only increased from there as Dunphy landed two for Borris/Kilcotton and Zane Keenan and Eoghan Cuddy replied.

Keenan didn't start but he made a huge impact off the bench with his points and also rose to catch the puckout that ignited Camross's fourth goal when Gaughan made a great run and handed inside to Delaney to score his second.

Scores from Dunphy, Quinlan and Fitzpatrick set up a grandstand finish however with just three points between the teams approaching injury time as tensions rose between the players and on the sidelines.

The loudest roar all year in O'Moore Park came bang on 60 minutes when Stephen Dunphy did great work on the right wing before finding Joe Campion in the middle whose shot was met by Tadhg Doran's hurl but still spun into the net such was the power and the sides were level.

Four minutes of injury time was signalled and they remained level going into the 64th minute before Camross caught fire bang on time with a score from the evergreen Keenan, followed by one from Delaney to make it two and finally Keenan saw out the win with his fourth point right at the death to cap it off.
