CHILDREN in Abbeyleix had an arresting experience after a patrol car rolled up to their playschool door.
There was huge excitement when Sgt Howard and Garda O’Mahony from Abbeyleix Garda Station visited the boys and girls at The Children’s House last week.
The well-behaved group at the busy daycare centre and Montessori school in The Fairways did themselves proud and there could well be some new recruits of the future, after a memorable day that focused on road safety.
The young recruits loved having their picture taken with the popular ‘cardboard garda’ and they even got to sit in the patrol car, hopefully for the first and last time!
For being on their best behaviour during the visit on Monday 20 January, each child received a pack containing a garda colouring book, hi-visibility vest, hi-visibility armband and a hi-visibility bag courtesy of the Road Safety Authority.
It was an enjoyable and informative day that will help to keep young people safe on local roads. Gardaí can organise similar visits to schools, crèches, clubs and youth clubs throughout the county, offering valuable advice about road safety. Visits can be arranged by contacting any local garda station.
