AGE-FRIENDLY parking spaces will be provided at O'Connell Square, Mountmellick, following a proposal at the latest meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick municipal district.

The motion was put forward at the July monthly meeting by Fianna Fáil councillor Paddy Bracken, who received the following response from the area office:

‘The MD office will meet with elected members on site to agree on the number and locations of car parking spaces. All works are dependent on budgets and resources.’

In response, Cllr Bracken asked if it would really cost that much money to regulate a few spaces and whether or not there was any flexibility at all in the council's overall budget.

The representative clarified that, in this case and wherever there was an issue that posed a critical threat to public safety, it would always be addressed.
