Alzheimer Society of Ireland launches free dementia training in Laois for family carers

THE Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) is launching a free dementia training course in Laois for families caring for a loved one living with dementia.

The ASI is inviting family members of people living with dementia to take part in its free course, ‘Insights into Dementia – Informing and Empowering Family Carers.’ This evidence-based programme provides a welcoming and supportive space for carers to share experiences and gain practical knowledge on topics such as understanding dementia, communication strategies, personal care, and self-care.

The course will take place at The Killeshin Hotel, Dublin Rd, Portlaois, Co. Laois, R32 TYW7, every Thursday between 6 November and 18 December, from 7-9pm.

The timetable is: Week 1: Course Introduction & Understanding Dementia; Week 2: Changing Relationships & Looking After Yourself; Week 3: Accessing Information; Week 4: Communication & Engaging Activities; Week 5: Responsive Behaviours & Safety at Home; Week 6: Personal Care, Nutrition & Eating Well; Week 7: Course Review, Certificate Presentation & Next Steps.

The number of people living with dementia in Ireland is increasing, making support for family carers more important than ever.
