THE annual Lalor Clan Rally is taking place this year from Friday to Sunday 25 to 27 July.
The Lalor clan is the second most principal Irish clan in Laois, after the O’Moores.
Those with the surnames of Lalor, O’Lalor, Lawlar, Lawler or O’Leathlobhair will again this year meet in Abbeyleix for the annual gathering.
Among the most memorable members of the clan were Honest Patt Lalor, MP (friend of Daniel O’Connell, The Liberator), his sons James Fintan, Land League reformer, Young Irelander, defender of the small tenant farmer and farm labourers and his brother Peter Lalor, leader of the gold miners at the Eureka Stockade, Ballarat, Victoria State, Australia.
The weekend promises to be an informative occasion with talks, trips, entertainment and the selection of the clan chieftain at the annual ball.
As in previous years many are expected to travel from abroad for the occasion.
