COMMUNITY groups on the Laois/Tipperary border in the catchment area of the Bruckana Wind Farm are being invited to apply for funding from the Bord na Móna Community Gains Scheme.

The fund will distribute over €50,000 to community and voluntary groups, non-profit groups, clubs and societies or organisations with a charitable status which aim to deliver community good and services in the vicinity of the wind farm.

Bord na Móna administers the scheme.

An awards committee is drawn from local communities to determine which projects are granted financial support.

Since the launch of the Scheme in 2014, over €500,000 of funding has been committed to local community groups and projects including schools, sports clubs, social initiatives, as well as general amenity and community facilities.

Operations Manager at the Bord na Móna’s Bruckana Wind Farm Tom Egan said: “Bord na Móna is delighted to announce the launch of the 2025 Bruckana Wind Farm Community Gains Scheme and are looking forward to working with the local communities on the delivery of projects which will benefit the people living near to the wind farm.

“Bord na Móna is committed to ensuring that local communities benefit from the development of renewable energy infrastructure projects in their area, which are needed to support the transition to a carbon neutral society. Our team will continue to work closely with the local community in the rollout of the Scheme and are eager to hear from anyone with project ideas.”

Applications are now being accepted until 5pm on Monday 31 March at 5pm.

Applicants requiring help or support with their applications can contact the project team by logging onto bruckanawindfarm@bnm.ie with their enquiries, or alternatively phone the Community Liaison Specialists Niall Donlon on 087 9951174 or Padraig Carty on 0870643734, for assistance.

The Bruckana wind farm site is located within the townlands of Bruckana, Rathpatrick and Baunmore in County Kilkenny, Baunaghra in County Laois and Rullowmacjames, Derryville and Killoran in North Tipperary.
