THE rollout of high-speed fibre broadband across Laois will be completed by the end of next summer, according to National Broadband Ireland (NBI).
The company delivering the government’s National Broadband Plan (NBP) has announced that the end of summer 2026 will see completion of the network in the four midlands counties of Laois, Offaly, Longford and Westmeath.
According to NBI, 39,969 homes, farms and businesses in the midlands can already order a high-speed connection, with 15,725 already connected. Just over 4,000 premises across the four counties have yet to be passed by NBP cables.
NBI says it has passed almost 404,000 premises in the national rollout. So far, over 143,000 premises across the country have connected to the NBI Network, with take-up approaching 60% in areas that were among the first to go live.
Speaking at the National Ploughing Championships in Offaly this week, NBI chief executive TJ Malone said: “With just over 4,000 premises left to go in the four counties, we are in the final stretch of the main deployment phase and anticipate delivering fibre connectivity to the midlands by the end of next summer.
“We’re delivering a network that empowers local communities, so we’re urging everyone to contact their broadband providers to ensure they get connected to the NBI network.”
As a wholesale network operator, NBI enables services from a range of broadband providers and does not sell fibre broadband directly to customers. More than 50 broadband providers are selling on NBI’s open-access network.
The NBI website is regularly updated to show estimated connection dates for particular areas and people can sign up for email notifications at nbi.ie.
