SEAN Fleming, TD, has called on the Department of Transport to establish additional locations for electric vehicle charging points throughout Co Laois.
The Fianna Fáil TD especially wanted to highlight that there were no locations for charging electrical vehicles in several substantially populated Laois towns â Borris-in-Ossory, Stradbally, Durrow and Castletown, while Mountrath only has one charging point in the whole town.
He said: "I am calling on the minister to work with Transport Infrastructure Ireland to ensure that these areas are prioritised as urgently as possible so people in these areas can have electrical vehicle charging facilities."
Having addressed the Dáil recently, Deputy Fleming confirmed that the minister for transport told him that in addition to the existing EV infrastructure throughout Laois, which includes 17 charging locations currently scattered through the county, along with 62 charging points, that there were a further five charging locations planned, which would provide for a total of 24 more additional charging points.
Despite this ‘good’ news, the TD cautioned that none of the areas he listed had been included in the plans. He said: "I ask the government to provide financial support as quickly as possible to ensure all these areas be provided with these electrical charging points as soon as possible."
