Cllr Clooney elected to top job of the Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick Municipal District

Cllr Ollie Clooney has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach of the Borris Municipal District.
Independent Councillor Ollie Clooney’s nomination was proposed by Fianna Fail councillor Paddy Bracken and seconded by Fine Gael councillor John King at the district’s AGM, this week.
A Durrow native, Cllr Clooney has been a Laois County councillor since 2019.
Speaking on the day Ollie Clooney said:“To come from the fields to this, it’s a fabulous achievement for an ordinary person like me, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, it’s a great honour.” After his speech, Cllr Ollie Clooney was presented with the district’s new chain of office by outgoing Cathaoirleach Cllr Conor Bergin.
In his speech, Cllr Ollie Clooney praised Cllr Conor Bergin for his work, saying he brought the role to a new level.
Ms. Angela McEvoy, Director of Services and Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick Municipal District Manager, said:
“We look forward to working with Cllr Ollie Clooney. On behalf of the staff here at Laois County Council, we’d like to wish you well as you come into this year”.
Cllr John King was elected as Leas Cathaoirleach, proposed by Cllr Ollie Clooney and seconded by Cllr Paddy Bracken.
