Community in Laois asked to be vigilant after car stolen from estate

A number of masked men were reportedly seen acting suspicious in the area.

THE community around Killenard are being asked to be vigilant following the break-in of a house and the stealing of car in two sperate incidents over the weekend.

In the first incident in the Killenard Lodge area, on Saturday night 25 January, a house was entered, car keys stolen and a white Skodia Kodiaq with 191 registration plates stolen.

A second incident was reported also in Killenard Lodge on Sunday morning at around 2.30am.

Gardaí said an unlocked car was “rummaged through”, but it is believed that nothing was taken.

A report on the Killenard Facebook page on Sunday morning said: “At 2.52am today a white estate car deployed two masked intruders outside a house. They entered the driveway and spent a short time there before returning to their car and waiting driver and leaving. They may have seen the CCTV cameras and alarm box and that cars were locked so left the site.

“Be on the alert and lock cars at night and don’t leave keys near front door.”

It added: “A car was also stolen in Killenard Lodge. Please ensure doors are locked and have to hand, Portarlington Garda numbers or any other emergency contacts in case is required."

Gardaí are appealing to the public who may have any information in relation to the house break in and/or car theft to contact them at 057 86 74100.
