Concert to celebrate priest Fr Liam Lawton’s musical career
Fr Lian Lawton
ST Mary’s Church in Edenderry will host a celebratory concert on Sunday 26 May to recognise the achievements of a priest and composer of sacred music, who spent almost 40 years ministering in Carlow.
Having been ordained in 1984, Fr Liam Lawton first served in Carlow cathedral before teaching in Knockbeg College. He recently received the papal award in February for his service to the Church as a composer and performer of sacred music.
Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin Denis Nulty, on behalf of Pope Leo XIV, presented the award to Fr Liam at a special evening in Maynooth University, where musicians and artists who have performed alongside him over the years joined him once again for a special night of music.
All proceeds from the concert will go towards the refurbishment of St Mary’s Church, Edenderry, Fr Liam’s hometown church, and tickets can be bought on the Edenderry parish website. A small number of tickets are also available from Edenderry parish office on 046 973 3311
