A GRAIGUECULLEN woman was last week served with a book of evidence in Carlow District Court in connection with 30 sample counts of deception and other charges. Garda Caroline O’Malley served the book of evidence containing the charges on Clare Duffy, 126 Croppy Place, Graiguecullen.
Ms Duffy (49) is facing 30 sample charges of deception, one charge of harassment and one charge of blackmail, arising from incidents that took place on dates between December 2017 and December 2023 in Crowsgrove, Kildavin.
Judge Geraldine Carthy gave Ms Duffy an alibi warning, meaning that the defendant must notify the gardaí within the next two weeks if she is to use an alibi in her trial. Solicitor Joe Farrell told Judge Carthy that it was a “complicated case” and asked for legal aid to cover five of the charges, which was granted.
Judge Carthy remanded Ms Duffy on continuing bail and ordered her not to contact the alleged injured party or any members of their family. Ms Duffy is to appear before the next sitting of Carlow Circuit Court on 12 November.
