Laois motorist found guilty of fatal hit-and-run in Kildare

A LAOIS man has been found guilty of the fatal hit and run of 16-year-old Kedagh Moore at Robertstown, Kildare.
Marin Silaghi (41) with an address at Ballybrittas, Co Laois was unanimously found guilty by the jury on all counts before him on Thursday at Naas Circuit Court.
After some three hours of deliberation, the jury came back before Naas Circuit Court Judge Elva Duffy finding him guilty on all three counts, including his failure to stop and keep his vehicle as well as offer assistance at the scene of the crash on 10 November 2024, which took the life of 16-year-old Kedah Moore.
It was heard previously that the deceased died as a result of the collision, which took place some 250 metres from his home at Graigues, Robertstown, Co Kildare, while he was walking at 12.40am on the R403 Allenwood-Prosperous road.
Mr Silaghi claimed that he believed he had hit a deer on the night and evidence was heard of the defendant drinking prior to the fatal collision.
Mr Silaghi is now in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on 17 July next.
