A MAN was convicted of a public order offence after he was caught urinating against a wall in Portlaoise.
At last week’s sitting of Portlaoise District Court, Garda Sgt JJ Kirby said that when gardaí were on mobile patrol at 1.20am on 3 January, they saw a man urinating against a wall in Church Avenue.
When they approached him, they found him in an intoxicated state, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet. He had to be arrested for his and the public’s safety.
The sergeant said the defendant had 18 previous convictions.
Evas Chenga, Apartment 59, Bell Harbour, Monasterevin, Co Kildare pleaded guilty to the offence.
“At 36 years of age,” said the man’s solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick, “he’s too old to be in court on this nature of a case. He drank to excess on the night in question. He wants to apologise to the gardaí for being a nuisance to the gardaí on the occasion.”
Judge Susan Fay convicted Mr Chenga of the offence and fined him €400.
