Portlaoise Court: Laois man hid drugs worth €3,500 in barrel
Portlaoise Courthouse
THE director of public prosecutions (DPP) has directed that a man should be dealt with at district court level, provided he pleads guilty to eight drug-related offence.
Garda Sgt JJ Kirby told Judge Catherine Ryan at Portlaoise District Court last week that, subject to her consent, the DPP’s directions were that the man’s case be handled at local level.
James Carroll (46), 92 Cherrygrove, Portlaoise was before it on eight charges arising from a search of his address, where gardaí, allegedly, found cocaine, cannabis and Alprazolam for his own use and for sale or supply on 10 April last year.
Sgt Kirby alleged that the total amount of drugs found in a barrel at the rear of the premises amounted to €3,500.
Judge Ryan said she would accept jurisdiction in the case.
Defending solicitor Josphine Fitzpatrick said that her client was in custody for unrelated offences and is due for release in August 2030.
Judge Ryan remanded the defendant on bail to the 14 September sitting of the court to allow time for him to decide which way he will plead to the offences.
