Portlaoise District Court: Judge imposes reporting restrictions on child pornography charge

Portlaoise Courthouse

JUDGE Andrew Cody imposed reporting restrictions on the press to prevent the identification of a man who was before last week’s sitting of Portlaoise District Court for allegedly possessing and distributing child pornography.

The man is charged with the distribution of child pornography from his home on 24 January last year and to possessing child pornography, again from his home address, on 22 February last year.

The man was granted bail on conditions that he observes a 10pm to 7am curfew, does not apply for a passport and attends his local garda station three times a week.

Garda Sgt JJ Kirby said the director of public prosecutions has directed that the case proceed by trial on indictment.

Judge Cody remanded the man on continuing bail to the 22 June sitting of the court for the service of a book of evidence.

Funded by the Court Reporting Scheme.
