THE wife of a man whose murder gardaí are investigating was fined when she appeared at Portlaoise District Court on a motoring offence.
Bridget Delaney (57), Clonkeen View, Bellingham, Portlaoise pleaded guilty to driving without tax on her car at Jessop Street, Portlaoise on 2 July last year.
Defending solicitor Philip Meagher said his client “is the woman whose husband has been missing for the past few years.” Judge Andrew Cody asked the prosecuting garda Stephen O’Hanlon how long the tax had expired on the car when he stopped it, to which he replied: “The tax was out 122 days.” The judge asked whether the back tax on the car had been paid?
Mr Meagher said that his client had not paid the back tax, instead “the car went for scrap.” Judge Cody convicted Ms Delaney of the offence and fined her €250.
