Customers queued for 17 hours for free chicken sandwiches at new Portlaoise Popeyes restaurant
Applegreen opened its first Popeyes restaurant at Midway, Junction 17 on the M7 last Friday, 26 June.
THREE customers queued for up to 17 hours to get free chicken sandwiches for a year, as Applegreen opened its first Popeyes restaurant at Midway, Junction 17 on the M7 last Friday, 26 June.
Two customers queued from 6pm the previous evening, Thursday, while the third joined the queue at 8pm. The restaurant opened at 11am on Friday. Each of the first 100 customers to turn up to the restaurant’s opening received Popeyes giveaways.
Applegreen has created 40 new jobs with the opening of the new Popeyes restaurant in Portlaoise, which is the brand’s second outlet in Ireland following the opening of a restaurant in Blanchardstown earlier in June.
A second restaurant is due to open in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre in Dublin soon.
Applegreen has worked with Popeyes in the US since 2021. The petrol retailer aims to create 450 new jobs over the next four years, as it rolls out Popeyes chicken restaurants in its roadside stores across Ireland, in what is a €6 million expansion programme.
Seamus Stapleton, managing director of Applegreen's Republic of Ireland business, said: “We are delighted to add Popeyes to our growing portfolio of high-quality brands in the Irish market.
“At Applegreen, we're committed to raising the bar for roadside hospitality and offering great food and worldâclass service to people on the move. Popeyes is a fantastic addition to the Applegreen offer and we can’t wait to open our first Popeyes outlet at Midway later this summer”.
