Durrow launches new digital walking routes
The new Durrow Digital Trail scheme will enhance walkers' experience
THREE new self-guided walking routes have been launched in Durrow, as part of a new digital trail scheme.
The initiative will offer walkers a mobility-friendly tour, with 45 points of interest, which they can access via QR codes that are littered throughout the route. Maps can also be downloaded for offline use.
The new routes under the Durrow Digital Trail scheme are the Durrow Heritage Trail, the Dunmore Loop Trail and the Dunmore Woods Nature and Biodiversity Trail. The venture was launched by Durrow Development Forum and Durrow Tidy Towns.
The Durrow Heritage Trail, which starts at the Heritage Map near Castle Durrow; was designed to explore local history, historic landmarks and the background of the planned nearby estate village.
The Dunmore Loop Trail, which runs for 12.4km, starts at the map board in Dunmore Woods car park. The route guides walkers through scenic loops, river views, flora and fauna and historic demesne lands near the River Nore.
The Dunmore Woods Nature and Biodiversity Trail is a shorter loop of 4.5km and highlights local flora, fauna and woodland ecosystems, starting at the map board in Dunmore Woods.
This project has received funding under the EU Just Transition Fund Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme for Ireland’s Midlands 2023-2026, administered by Fáilte Ireland.
The project is co-funded by the government of Ireland and the European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund.
