Entries open for writing competition in honour of the late Joe Drennan

Joe Drennan was a bright and talented student, who had a keen sense of justice for all. Laois Pride is holding a writing competition in his memory.
THE committee of Laois Pride are inviting submissions from people who live in Laois and surrounding areas for the second annual writing competition in honour of Joe Drennan who was from Mountrath.
The competition will commemorate Joe’s life and pay tribute to his legacy as a journalist with a passion for social justice and enhancing a wider understanding of marginalised communities.
This year the theme has been selected to mark the tenth anniversary of the Yes Equality campaign that won marriage equality referendum.
Entrants are required to produce a piece of writing (essay, short story, poem) on the theme of ‘The Most impactful Relationship in my life.’
Essay and story no more than 1000 words and poetry no more than 14 lines.
Winners will be selected by a panel of judges.
The deadline for submissions is Friday 15 August at 5pm.

The winning article/s will be published in The Laois Nationalist and the winner will also receive a prize presented at the Laois Pride Family Fun Day on Saturday 13 September.
